Art Teacher
My name is Rebecca Rembert, and I am the art teacher at P53K@MS88. I am a graduate of Pratt Institute with a BFA/MS majoring in Illustration and Art History. I am a multi-faceted artist, equally comfortable with a pencil, paintbrush, or sculpture. I live life as a teacher, painter, illustrator, set designer, and mural painter. I designed the sets and worked with a crew to paint the various P53K theatre productions. I have been working for the NYCDOE for nearly twenty years, teaching art to middle school students both in general and special needs educational settings. As a teacher, I believe in the importance of art theory and the power of art making. Encouraging my students to create works as they discover their own artistic voices is my primary goal. Art, in all beautiful and complex forms, is the soul of culture and the cornerstone of the human experience. Central to my teaching is the concept of educator as lead learner and chief collaborator. As an educator, my passion for the arts informs my teaching and my understanding of what it takes to be an artist. I believe that anyone can make something amazing. I have come to learn that through the arts, especially the performing arts, we learn about the human condition in conjunction with others causing us to live more enriched, social, and equitable lives.
